In the title story, one man's refuse becomes another man's find--and friends of Dear Garbage Man know there's more to it than that. ""A Fish Story"" is fishy: Kenny hooks mother's gold bracelet (not even reported missing here) when he reluctantly goes fishing in Raccoon Pond. Another resurrects the disobedient-donkey-knows-best theme (complete with poor sombreroed peasants and a silver lode); still another is a long runaround involving a silly dog and a duckling who--wonder of wonders--can swim. The last is strictly nursery school level and some of the others are pretty thin for independent readers: e.g. a dog who stops following his mistress to school when she switches from peanut butter sandwiches.
