The Beverly Hillbillies follows the lives of the Clampett family, a poor but lovable group of hillbillies from the Ozarks who strike it rich when they discover oil on their land. The patriarch of the family, Jed Clampett, was played by actor Buddy Ebsen, and he was joined by his mother-in-law Granny, played by Irene Ryan, his daughter Elly May, played by Donna Douglas, and his nephew Jethro Bodine, played by Max Baer Jr. After striking it rich, the Clampetts move to Beverly Hills, California, where they struggle to adjust to their new lifestyle and the culture shock of living among the wealthy elite. Many of the show's comedic moments centered around the Clampetts' hillbilly ways and their interactions with the snobbish and pretentious Beverly Hills residents.
