First Edition 1962 Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present, written by Charlotte Zolotow and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Published by Harper & Row, New York and Evanston. Published just before Sendak's landmark Where the Wild Things Are, this beautifully illustrated children's classic was named a 1963 Caldecott Honor Book. Sendak's full-color illustrations have a rich, painterly quality, following a little girl and Mr. Rabbit through the countryside as they search for the perfect birthday present for her mother.
