A largely autobiographical account by the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 1896 campaign for the U.S. Presidency, ultimately lost by the author to his Republican opponent, William McKinley. 'Together with a collection of his speeches and a biographical sketch by his wife.' William Jennings Bryan (1860–1925) was an American lawyer, orator and politician. Beginning in 1896, he became the dominate force in the Democratic Party, running as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 1896, 1900 & 1908. He is still the youngest person to receive a vote in the electoral college for POTUS. Along with Henry Clay, he became one of the only two to receive electoral votes in 3 elections and not become President.
